What does Providence offer?
We chose Providence, in part, because during BKS Iyengar’s first trip to the U.S. over 50 years ago he visited Rhode Island and performed three asana demonstrations in the Providence area. Now you are invited to come experience the energy of the Providence of today!
The capital of Rhode Island, Providence is the third largest city in New England with a population of approximately 175,000. It is a small, manageable New England city with a bustling downtown area peppered with many shops and restaurants. Located at the mouth of the Providence River on Narragansett Bay, it is home to a 1,200-acre park system, including Waterplace Park and Riverwalk. Your visit to Providence in October will provide you with nature’s spectacular display of gorgeous fall-foliage, warm autumn days and crisp New England nights.

Providence is rich in educational history and attracts students from around the world who are here to attend Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson & Wales University, and Providence College. Known as “The Renaissance City” for its vibrant arts community, its cultural attractions include Gallery Night, on which you can take a trolley to dozens of galleries of your choice, the spectacular Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and Trinity Repertory Company, a small award-winning regional theater. Providence has a renowned culinary history, and you can find restaurants to please any palate. The Roger Williams Park and Botanical Gardens provide a respite from the urban scene.
To enhance your visit, we have made sure the conference center and hotel are easily accessible via public transportation: only four blocks from the AMTRAK train station and only six miles north of T.F. Green Airport in nearby Warwick, RI.
